With no changes to the current system,
* health care spending will account for 25% of the gross domestic product in 2025, compared with 16% in 2007, CBO said (New York Times, 12/19).
* the number of uninsured will rise to about 54 million in 2019. (That's an increase of 7-9 million or 15-20%.
With no changes we have 20% more people without health insurance (not receiving healthcare) and at the same time the percentage of our GDP devoted to the care of fewer Americans will rise by 50% (9 percentage point increase, from 16% to 25% = over 50% increase).
What kind of a system creates these results?
- 20% fewer customers and 50% higher costs?
People talk about the inefficiencies of government sponsored healthcare....Could an universal-coverage system create inefficiencies worse than that?
We, you and I, have mandated major changes in our healthcare system. How, you ask? By idly allowing the creation of the system we have now.
Think about it. Think about how we grow our way out of this recession if a greater percentage of our GDP is devoted to the costs of our healthcare and if fewer Americans receive adequate healthcare meaning a less healthy and less productive workforce, community and nation?
