What does the CEO do?
The Community Evangelist is
responsible for engaging the entire [Company] community (customers,
prospects, partners and staff) around [Company] and its products. The CE is both a customer advocate, and a company champion, and is charged
with Communicating, Connecting, Nurturing, and Innovating.
I saw this job description for a recent job opening for Community Evangelist. I've seen this same description at blogs and sites.
But each time, I wonder...if the Community Evangelist does all that, what's the CEO doing?
Reading reports? Choosing colors for the bathrooms? Flying their private jets to congressional panels?
And what's everyone else doing in a company that needs a community evangelist to to engage with customers, prospects, partners and staff?
Whose job in a company is to NOT engage with customers, partners and staff. Is there someone on the org chart left out from this mission? They got a pass when they walked in the front door? Does everyone get a pass and that's why they need a community evangelist?
Does no one in this company understand that's how they survive, thrive, and grow? Connecting with customers, partners, employees...
What, instead, are they doing all day long? Painting the bathrooms, fueling the corporate jet...
Bottomline, and maybe I'm old school, this job description exists only because the current leadership is failing in executing their primary mission. Their primary mission is to create and execute a plan, with everyone there in the company....to connect with the entire [Company] community (customers,
prospects, partners and staff)...
And the way the leader sustains the execution of that plan is by ...Communicating, Connecting, Nurturing, and Innovating. I'd add empowering, inspiring, helping, showcasing their strengths.
