Look closely at his profile. There is nothing that connects us. I'm not a conservative Christian father of any number of children. I avoid dentists (I have an appt tomorrow. Not excited.) He's a Republican activist; our social circles don't overlap...except on Twitter.
But one thing we do share is a passion for blogging and advocating and rabble-rousing. I thought I'd tweeted him this message, but I don't see on Twitter that I did. So, here it is, Dr. Cole:
I'm at opposite ends of the spectrum from you on politics. But, I absolutely love the passion and commitment you bring to your causes.
I am thankful for Flap sharing his opinions and forcing me to loo closer at what separates us and what connects us. What connects is our passion for First Amendment rights, freedom of speech, and a love and passion for our country and wanting to see it be all that it can be, that we can be.
It would be interesting to see where, how and with what data we both used to move towards opposite ends of the spectrum. I'm willing to bet underneath our rabble-rousing is but a few real and true differences. Dentistry...ok. Sure. That's a given...But, I'd be surprised at the end of the say, if we sat down and mind-mapped where we are, where we started, we'd find more overlap than not. And that might be the place to find a common ground one more time.
PS: I gotta ask: where'd you get the middle name Flap? My middle name is Gray. No, not for the author. All 7-8-9 of my uncles had the middle name Gray...Zane...Gray...Safrit.
