Small business payrolls rising?

Sure Payroll Small Business Scorecard reports a .3% rise in payrolls in January, 2009, for small businesses. I don't see their definition of small business. But, it's still good news.

And there's more, though it's qualified.

Paychecks dropped again in January, 2009 But, it was the smallest decline since May 2008.

And one more bit of qualified good news: the number of 1099 contractors used with small business rose in January, 2009.

All in all, after reading these numbers I'm reminded of the poet Robert Frost and his poem Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening:

The woods are lovely dark and deep
But I have promises to keep
And miles to go before I sleep.

We have promises to keep and miles to go before we sleep with this recovery.

But...we're moving now in the right direction, more and more.
