Ask them: what are the right tools to do the right things, right.Doesn’t this seem obvious? It should, shouldn’t it?
Who better to know what is the right thing to do than the people...doing them? Oh, and these are the people that then answer for when the right things are not done.
Who better to know the right way to do the right things than the people whose day is made or ruined if these things are not done right. Oh, and they and their day must answer.
Then, who better to know what tools are need to do the right things, right?
You recognize them, their skills, their knowledge, their desire to do well, their responsibility and accountability for doing the right things, right....when you ask them “What tools do you need?”
Disclaimer: Sure, as leader you will sometimes know a better way. For instance, I knew a double-monitor made my day so much easier and productive. I mentioned it. There was reluctance. And then individually they saw how a double monitor worked and helped. We bought everyone a second monitor. But that’s a post for another day.
Ask them, the ones whose day is directly aligned with doing the right things right...ask them what tools they need. That’s recognizing them. They’ll recognize you for it. And soon you’ll be recognizing them for more of the right things done right, done faster, done with less expense and more results. Pretty soon, you’ll have to ask them again. And this circle starts again.
See how that recognition thing works? It’s a delightful circle.

I announced last month the 52-Week Employee Recognition Plan. This is the first week of that plan.
You can start with any week and make that your first week.
You can take one of those weeks and turn it into a month or commit to an accelerated pace and complete 6 of the weeks in one month.
You can create your own week of employee recognition. Share that journey here. Share it in your blog or Twitter or Facebook.
But do something to recognize your employees! They set your brand apart as your ultimate competitive edge. And the more you recognize their achievements, the more achievements you'll see and they'll enjoy, along with your customers and and shareholders, partners and vendors.
