I announced last month the 52-Step Employee Recognition Plan. This is the 7th week of that plan.
Provide Better Tools than Your Competitors Provide Their EmployeesThe step last week was to ask them for the right tools to do the right job, right.
Now this week, the tip is to go farther. Broaden your horizon and theirs. Provide the tools that are even better than what’s offered at their competitors.
This seems obvious. On the other hand, it’s the oversight of the obvious with employee recognition that creates disengaged employees.Let’s look at this through the eye of a disengaged leader. You want to beat the competition, right? That’s your motivation. Fine. Better tools than your competitors means (or could) you can deliver a better widget, faster and with lower cost of goods sold. Right?
Let’s look at this through the eye of an engaged leader. You still want to beat the competition, right? You also want to beat your competition today...and tomorrow...and next week.
Make sure you provide better tools, then, for everyone in your organization. This will help lower your cost of goods sold.
This investment in tools better than your competition also recognizes the talents and passions and career goals and desire to grow of everyone in your organization.
They recognize your investment in these tools for their success. They recognize you are actively looking for better tools for them.
They recognize your investment is better than what’s invested by their competitor.
Now, they’re engaged with their goals and their tools and their success at their company. And that’s how they, with your help, beat their competition today...and tomorrow...and next week...and next year.
And that’s how you create an engaged organization. Provide the tools that help everyone achieve their goals. Provide the tools that are better than can be found anywhere...and by doing so recognize the talents and skills, strengths and passion...and role of those in your organization. And together you’ll be better than your competitors.
