I announced in May, 2010, the 52 - Week Employee Recognition Plan. This is the 17th week of that plan. The lesson this week is:
Tell their boss how awesome they are, right in front of them.
Do it.
Praise that member of your organization right in front of their boss. Talk about them right in front of them. talk about their latest accomplishment or heroic moment. Talk about that problem they solved or that idea they offered. Talk about that customer they made happy or the sales goal they exceeded or how they stayed up all night to fix that network outtage that came from last night’s storm...
Why wait?
And why do it behind their back in some closeted meeting?
All that has been accomplished by that person is a cause for a micro-celebration. Their accomplishments, their talents, their contribution to the organization, their strengths, their commitment....all serve as a source for this micro-celebration.
String together enough of these micro-celebrations and you have a huge celebration that engulfs everyone.
Start small. Like a snowball. Keeping adding another micro-celebration. Tell another boss about another great person in their team and what you saw them accomplish. Keep adding them, one after another until you have so much momentum nothing can stop you and everyone from recognizing all your accomplishments and talents, strengths and commitments, sacrifices and dedication and the momentum you have built. Keep doing it. Keep adding to it.
See where I’m going? See what is possible?
Do it.
Tell their boss how awesome they are, in front of them.
Make your company the snowball in our current economic hell.
They’ll recognize you for what you did for them.
You can start with any week of the 52-Week Employee Recognition Plan and make that your first week.
You can take one of those weeks and turn it into a month or commit to an accelerated pace and complete 6 of the weeks in one month.
You can create your own week of employee recognition. Share that journey here. Share it in your blog or Twitter or Facebook.
But do something to recognize your employees! They set your brand apart as your ultimate competitive edge. And the more you recognize their achievements, the more achievements you'll see and they'll enjoy, along with your customers and and shareholders, partners and vendors.
