"We know people are following brands like crazy," says Adam Bain, Twitter's president of global revenue.via www.usatoday.com
Really? Huh.
People don't follow brands. People follow people. And until...now, Twitter was the place to connect with people.
Besides, those who want to follow brands can like those brands on Facebook. And Facebook and those brands can follow, some might say, consume their followers' online activities around the web. ( Consume/follow/track...You know it by its other name cyber-stalking.... 'cause it's done in stealth. Facebook and its partners don't share the details.)
We come to Twitter to connect with each other, what are we doing, what are we reading, what interests us...in real-time. Because we offer it to each other.
Facebook recently announced it would create a design that forces ads onto our page. At all times. And now Twitter's original new idea is to do the same by posting these ads at the top of Twitter feeds.
Sadly, Twitter seems to have forgotten their own legacy. 4-5 years is a long time in social media, I guess. But Twitter's original purpose was to provide a platform where we could connect, in real-time with each other about what really matters to us. Real life. Our life. Brands weren't part of that conversation.
Twitter, don't forget that.
