Here is one near absolute* truth in life:
Time is the one resource we can never regain.
Recognize the precious quality of time in your employees’ day and you recognize the precious quality of their strengths, dreams and desires as they deliver solutions all day, every day.
You build a culture of recognition leading to engaged employees when you recognize the time-constraints under which they work. How can you expect engagement by your employees if you allow their time to constantly be...misused, wasted, lost?
Their one resource you cannot add to, lengthen or strengthen, is time. Their time.
You can recognize them by recognizing the importance of their time.
If you need a meeting, make it useful. Be prepared. Start and end on time. Declare an agenda before the meeting. Ask if these meetings are helpful.
Fight for policies that respect their dignity, maturity, abilities and time.
Celebrate or correct the key metrics.
Leave them alone. Be there when you are needed.
Keep a lookout for opportunities to thank them, specifically. But other than that, err on the side of leaving them alone.
Respect their time.
