Substituting the small cost of preventive care for the large costs of curative care for all citizens seems like a sensible way to contain medical costs under a universal health care system.
Why can't we have that system here?
Why can't we have a system that emphasizes, and makes affordable, preventative health care?
By system, I mean something more meaningful than newsletters from your health insurance company telling you to eat more vegetables.
Given that our rising costs of health care stem in some part from our denying the effectiveness of preventative care (or its application) and our economy suffers more from the greater loss of worker productivity from curative care vs. preventative care...one would think this would be another of those no-brainers: Prioritize preventative care. Save money for workers, add productivity to our economy, keep healthcare costs low. 3:1.
Why can't we have that system here? That system is Germany's system.
