Becky McCray at SmallBiz Survival and I share many common interests, chief among them is small business and rural communities/small towns.
Becky McCray recently shared a poignant reminder of the inevitable Small Town Talk. One of the pleasures of a small town are the close relationships you can develop. Conversely, one of the challenges of a small town is the illusion of close relationships.
Frankly, this talk isn't limited to our small towns. The conversation Becky describes is the same in big towns with big companies. People are people, regardless of their community's census count.
And now with social media...Small Town Talk has gone global. The same conversations and connections, insights and innovations, illusions and innocence, is going on 24 x 7 in online communities, the digital equivalent of small towns, popping up on the 'net prairie and then disappearing, growing and dissolving.
Becky shares some great perspective:
No matter what you do, they will talk about you. And sometimes it will hurt.
I don't have an answer. I just want you to know it's inevitable.
Yep. You're right, Beck.
Small Town Talk. Gotta love it.
