I'm psyched. Another great guest has agreed to share an hour of his time talking about his passion, his solutions, his experiences and hopefully...his solutions for your challenges.
Our guest tomorrow is Adam Hartung, Managing Partner of Spark Partners and author of an outstanding book, Create Marketplace Disruption: How to stay ahead of the competition, is our guest tomorrow. The show starts at 9:30 AM, Central. Listening options are listed at the end of this post.
Who’s Adam Hartung?
Adam Hartung helps companies innovate to achieve real growth. He began his career as an entrepreneur, selling the first general-purpose computing platform to use the 8080 microprocessor when he was an undergraduate.Then at DuPont, he built a new division from nothing to over $600 million revenue in less than 3 years.
Then, at Pizza Hut, he led the initiative to start Pizza Hut Home Delivery. He opened over 200 stores in under 2 years.
Now, I’m thinking... When does he sleep? 200 stores in 24 months means...8.3 stores opened per month, every month, for 24 months. That is 2 stores per week, every week, for 104 weeks. Ok, he took a 2-week vacation each year. So he could sleep.
Of course, he did not personally open each store. Nor did he personally prospect and close all $600 million additional revenue in that new division with DuPont he built.
This accomplishments tell me he is able to communicate a vision clearly with a coherent strategy and a set of tactics that inspires a vast number of smart people to stop what they are doing (despite any Defend and Expand incentives present) to begin the risky journey of a startup. And finish that journey, also.
Those last parts, inspires a vast number of people...to finish a journey is the mark of a leader.
Sure, the startup is within a huge organization. But that makes it even more impressive. It is one thing to start a company and build it from scratch into a success. It is another to do that within the competing confines of an existing global organization with vast amounts of legacy infrastructure and incentives to
A. streamline operating costs;
B. reduce risks;
C. defend and expand their current silo.
Here's what Guy Kawasaki said about Adam:
Adam Hartung provided a great analysis of why the pursuit of innovation usually fails inside established companies. Holy kaw, does he call a spade a spade or what? Definitely worth reading and (anonymously) forwarding inside your company! Link
Now he’s written a book that shares his experiences, his insights and what he has used throughout his career to Create Marketplace Disruption...and stay ahead of the competition.

Note: His book is excellent. He does call a spade a spade in his book, too. His book and that article are worth reading and forwarding within your company. Put your name to it. Create a little disruption in your marketplace and stand out from those around you.
