Gallup Global Practice Leader Tom Rath has:
" written three #1 international bestsellers. His first book, How Full Is Your Bucket?, was a #1 New York Times best seller. StrengthsFinder 2.0, is a long-running #1 Wall Street Journal and was listed by USA Today as the top-selling business book of 2008. His latest Best Seller, Strengths Based Leadership, was published in 2009 was also a WSJ and BusinessWeek bestseller. Rath's books have sold more than 2 million copies. "- Global Leader
Now he presents the results of his ongoing research into his latest book, Wellbeing: The 5 Essential Elements, written with James K. Harter, PhD.
Clearly, Tom has something to say and says it well. His 3 books written primarily for a business audience have become international bestsellers. And now, he's compiled that research into a book written for a general audience.
I really liked the book for 3 reasons:
1. It's well-written. Tom and his co-author...write well. I was engaged, even excited, waiting for the next bit of research or anecdote or conclusion he would share. Kinda like Christmas Day and Christmas Eve on every page. I know the next page has a gift waiting for me to unwrap just by reading on and turning the next page. And each page is a gift of reading pleasure.
2. It offers compelling content. It is one thing to write well. But if you add compelling content then, well, you have a compelling book. And readers are compelled to read. The research Tom includes in his book is not only the result of his current ongoing work but also includes some of the early research he made and his organization, Gallup, completed on this area of happiness and wellbeing.
3. It offers actionable steps. Ok. A well-written book is a reward itself. A well-written book with compelling research and insight is...Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Tom takes it one step further. He includes steps we all can take to improve our wellbeing in 5 essential areas. Now it is a resource to improve our lives the day after Christmas and on through the year. Now, Tom is an author we want to interview. Fortunately, he agreed.
