Chuck Martin is the CEO of The Mobile Future Institute and Director of the Center of Media Research at MediaPost Communications Inc.
He's recently written an excellent book: The Third Screen: Marketing to Your customers in a World Gone Mobile. The Third Screen...defines the implications, strategies and tactics to survive and thrive in business in a world gone mobile. The book links the technological developments to the behavioral changes that go hand-in-hand and reveals the unexpected aspects of the coming changes in mobile, preparing marketers and businesspeople for what lies just around the corner.
What that means for business is...you will need to go mobile in your marketing. Chuck shares the data and the examples and the best-practices of brands and tools and resources that can help you make your entre' into mobile marketing a success. There are only 5 billion mobile phones in the world. 73% of the population. In the US there are 294 mobile phones, 94% of the population, in the hands of consumers who are on location making purchasing decisions...
Why on God's [mobile] earth would you not want to go mobile in your marketing?
Maybe you're reluctant, unsure of next steps, what to do, how to do it...I know I am. But now with Chuck's book you will have answers to those questions that can take away your reluctance, and provide next steps and what to do and how to do it and when to do it.
As I write this, I sense a bit of personal betrayal. I hate marketing as it's displayed today. Its practices are a source of constant sorrow, disappointment, interruptions of ever greater length and connivance, and aggravation. Yeah, I'm harsh. But we as consumers share so much of our personal life, advertisers/marketers can glean so much of our personal life...we even register our personal life and still we rarely ever see an add that matches with any content we consume at the moment. (Think, they're not tracking your online behavior? Have you looked at the list of cookies on your browser? Delete them all and then see how quickly they return.)
However, Chuck's research shows some best practices that connect brands messages with respect for their consumers and the intelligence of the consumers in a way that engages that consumer and wait for it...increases traffic and even better increases sales.
